BEYOND THE MOONLIGHT

Beyond the moonlight
Beyond those embracing silhouettes
Lies a vapid atmosphere
A storm you rarely see or here
A scrimmage fueled by mistrust and fear
A destructive storm from spectators
Lie in ambush under that romantic moon-lit night.

Beyond the ball dance
Marital vows are given no chance
Broken hearts skip in reception
Of brutal insults
Painful tears substitute
The romantic ones of the moonlight.

Beyond those lively strolls
Bare feet shuffle
Evading the uncoupling feud
Faces redden with hatred
Brutality takes reign
Slaps fall like rain
Beyond that moonlight hug
Husband hectors wife.

I WRITE.......

Relentlessly I write
Certainly not about smiles
For I know how abject poverty
Stamps a sneer on a politicians’ mouth
I sing praises not to our leaders
They lead us to lead in disloyalty
To our very own creed
Justice be our shield and defender.

I write……
Down in the ghetto terror is relayed via wire
Mungiki are guns for hire, the police are excited to fire
So hastily at the victims, you can’t judge, who’s the liar?

Relentlessly, I write……. what choice do I have?
Out in the cold a child wails, evidently out of hunger the cry is frail
The Red Cross tent is torn, yet, it’s the only shelter from the hailstorm.

Relentlessly, I write…….. hoping the wrong to right
In the village masses fight, in parliament smiles are bright
Judgment based on tribe; else you can afford a bribe.

I write……. write tirelessly, not firing aimlessly
On T.V. they call it inflation, a learned term for mass starvation
Time for mass action, property destruction, authority inaction.

What choice I’m I left?
Drank drivers can barely keep left, corrupt cops at their best
Ten people lie dead, the driver bribed around the driving test.

What choice do I have?
Of crime I’ve had enough, to write I now have the nerve
I write…….
Expecting some sanity and love, like a dove from the heavens above.

INDEPENDENT

I’m familiar with many judges
They help me settle many grudges
My closest allies are policemen
They also make use of conmen
Like me!

When courts become an impediment
I get an appointment with the president
Word goes around
He is good in convicts’ pardonment
So economic thugs
Wary not of state imprisonment.

I adore my local preacher
In adultery he’s a good teacher
Of bribery he’s a perfect picture

I’m proud of my cabinet buddies
We all enjoy tyranny
We all feed from impunity
I’ m very proud of my friends
We are not worried about the trend

Kenya offers thieves much comfort
With conspiracies to plot
Zero chances of being caught
Our freedom pays abundantly
To those who siphon public cash connectively

Here, power is dependent on tribalism
Public appointments are dependent on nepotism
So it is!
Life is meant for enjoyment
Only for those who get their portion
In dependence on corruption.
